Slam This!

It’s Slammy time! Last year Michelle McCool was nominated for Diva of the Year. By some weird series of events, the award instead went to Beth Phoenix. It’s a new year, a new show, and hopefully a new winner!

Michelle isn’t officially nominated. In fact, if we’re going by the television commercial, she’s not nominated at all. The girls shown are Melina, Maryse, Kelly Kelly and Mickie James. Again, nothing’s been made official so this doesn’t mean these are the only four nominated. We certainly hope not because for one, Michelle’s not listed, and for two, there’s not much to pick from.

A few of the divas have had a great 2009. Not that it needs to be said, but Michelle is of course one of them. She made her in-ring debut at WrestleMania. She defeated Melina at The Bash to capture her first reign as Women’s Champion. She is the first diva to hold both the Divas and Women’s championships. Her win-loss record is quite impressive as well! 2008 was a great year for her too, no doubt about that, but she has really stepped up her game in 2009.

As for her competition, well… it depends on who you ask! Melina has had a great year too. She won the Women’s title back in January. She’s now the current Divas champion. She and Michelle put on some amazing matches that have become the favorites not only of fans, but of the ladies themselves. Then there’s Mickie. She won the Divas championship back in July, lost it in October and was moved to SmackDown. She’s one of the fan favorites. If the winner was voted on, she’d most likely have this in the bag.

Michelle, Melina or Mickie… who will it be? Or maybe there will be a curve thrown our way and Beth Phoenix will win for the second year in a row. Michelle may not even be nominated, which would be completely ridiculous, but WWE’s done crazy (read: stupid) things before. If she does happen to be nominated, we fully expect the Slammy to be placed into her hands!
