So, what are “the boys” up to these days?
I’m up to about 305. Oh, I’m assuming you’re speaking of what we are up to in DUBBLEWIDE world. Well, we are working diligently on finishing upalbum number 2, getting everything in order to kick off our September Jack Daniels tour, and at the same time trying our hardest to introduce our style of music to as many people as we possibly can. “Hick Hop”, “Country Rap”, whatever you may call it, we understand completely that it is not to everyone’s likings, and we accept that. However, we are trying our hardest to crossover the two most popular selling music genres of all time and have as much fun possible while doing so!
What can fans except from Doublewide’s latest project?
You can actually expect a lot. We learned so much from the first album, and our focus and approach has been completely different. The album will be PG, which means a lot to me. Nothing hurt more over the last year or two when people would come up to me and say, “I love your album, but I can’t let my kids listen to it”. If everyone can’t listen to it, then in my opinion, it shouldn’t be able for just any ole’body to have the chance. You can expect a lot more “crossover” work. Meaning, there is much more of a country foundation to a lot of the music. Don’t get me wrong, we still have some tracks that will turn a hay barn into a regular night club if played loud enough, but it has a lot more country feel to it. 3 big redneck country boys rappin. Who’d have thunk it right?
So what’s the latest album called, and what inspired it?
In all honesty, we have yet to name the album. We are toying with some names as we speak, and we are considering letting a fan name it for us. You know, a contest of sorts. We are leaning towards Backwoods Bar-b-q, Country Crunk, Mudhole Kings, or something along those lines, but that one is still in the air. And with the release right around the corner, we ought to start putting some thought to that one huh? Lol As far as the inspiration behind it, that’s very hard to justify as well. I (My sister) as well, have always tried to be trend setters. Maybe not so much, trend setters, but ahead of the game so to say. And being a giant music fan of ALL GENRES, I am pretty sure I can say, nobody has ever rapped to AC/DC. Charlie Daniels, Lynard Skynard, and a few other surprises. With that being said, I think we are trying to be a trendsetter so to say!
How has life changed since becoming a rap artist? Big things must be poppin!
LOL…besides losing all your money chasing your dream and putting your all in to something? Seriously though, I would have to say the only real change is gaining so many fans. It’s so rewarding to have someone approach you out of nowhere and be like “that song you do about such and such, is all about my life! “ that means a lot to know that when we put our all in to something, and it hits home with someone, it makes it all worth it. And it’s pretty cool to be at a red-light in a town you have never been to before and here some DWB playing in the car next to you. It’s really surreal. I mean, we are far from a Big Deal right now. I mean, we are “kind of a big deal”… hahaha but hopefully this will all change in the near future. Hard work and dedication!!!
What have you learned about the creating process on the last album that you’ve applied to this one?
Wow. I could answer this for hours. To shorten it up I will make it nice and simple. You can NEVER rush and expect it to be good. You have GOT to take criticism (positive and negative), and listen to what people are telling you. If someone is not digging what you’re doing, and they like the majority of your music. Do not be a afraid to make some changes that they suggest. I mean, they are your audience, and they know better than anyone, what they want to hear!
Anyone that follows you on Facebook or twitter knows that you guys are always traveling and performing. Sounds like someone we know! Would you have it any other way?
At this point? No, I would have it no other way. If things weren’t happening in a positive manner and taking the right directions as to where we need to be with our career, we wouldn’t constantly be traveling and doing shows. so to answer that, Heck No! I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!
You’ve got to have some pretty amazing road stories! Why don’t you share with us at least one of them, please!
LOL…wow… let’s just say that there is a Chinese restaurant in Lakeland, Fl that we more than likely will never be let back into. Hmmm, a 4 foot alligator in our RV. Stopping on the highway to leap off of a 40 foot bridge. A Horse in oue hotel room…. I’m going to keep this answer short. Because if I ramble in to all of the good stuff, it could be awfully incriminating to the rest of the crew, and seeing that I am speaking for all of us, I won’t mention anything else… I’ll get back to you on that one ?
How do you feel when you’re on stage performing?
Awesome! So much fun to make people smile, laugh, scream, dance, and have an all around good time. I thought I would never get the same rush that I got when I used to take a snap in front of 50,000 fans. Boy was I wrong. It’s an indescribable feeling, and it gets better with every show!
What are some of DWB’s future goals?
As farfetched as it may sound, we don’t set small goals. Kind of like someone else on this site that I’m related to ? if you set a goal that’s too easy to attain, it’s too easy to give up when you reach it. Theres a ton of peeps we would like to meet and perform with. There are dream venues we would like to play. But our ultimate goal is to be one of the pioneering groups in this unheard, un-named genre we refer to as Hick Hop, and transition it into an eventual mainstream, on air, music genre!
If DWB could collaborate with any other artist(s) who would it be, and why?
That’s a tough one as well. This is going to sound weird, but here you go. I would like for us to collaborate about a 10 minute song with travis barker on the drums, john legend singing some vocals, zac brown will definitely have a verse, jay-z is on the track, Eminem hits a crazy wicked verse, it transitions back to Alabama, with Jason Aldean doing a solo, followed by Alicia keys and taylor swift doing a duet. Slash does about a 2 minute guitar solo, Dierks Bentley sings a verse, DUBBLEWIDE jumps in the mix, Willie Nelson does his thing in a medley with Merle Haggard, and Hank Jr… Uncle Kracker starts the outro and Kid Rock brings it home…. TOO MUCH for ya? Yes, I’m sure it would never work, but that is how broad the spectrum is when it comes to influences, and we left off dozens…..
OK, we’ve got to fess up: Not only do we think the track is on fire, but we really loved the music video for “Hick Life”! Who came up with the idea behind the track, and the music video?
Cool story. We went to Tennessee to shoot the video for our “Home Sweet Home” song. We were sitting around sipping some Tennessee sunsets, and this beat was playing in the studio. My boy BigSmo said, that’s some straight up hick life style music. I said “Hick life, raised on a dirty road” and I stopped… Bottleneck says, “growing up, doing what my daddy told”.. looked over at Smo, and then came the “sippin from the jar swimming in a water hole”, and Charlie Bonnet III (who sings the vocals and played guitar for us) just up and bellows out “living this hick life wild as a rodeo”… it was like it was meant to be. We went there for a whole other project, came up with that hook in a story like setting, wrote our verses and had the song recorded in three hours. Shot the video the next day, and the rest was history. It was freaking aweomse! Or should I say SIMPLY FLAWLESS
We’re still waiting for a music video cameo from Double M – what’s up with that?
Shhh… cant let everything out of the bag!
How fun would it be to pull a Timbaland and have the Divas in one of your videos! But if you had to choose, who would you say is WWE’s hottest Music Video Vixen? Flip a coin!
We have a song out called “Giddy Up Lil Country Girl”…. We are writing the script to that video as we speak, and no doubt, some DIVA VIXEN cameos would be great! I cant narrow that one down to just one DIVA. But you better believe that LAYCOOL would be in it if I had my choice. I mean, what would a flawless video be without flawless family in it?
What are your sister’s feelings about the new album, has she given you guys any feedback or advice?
I know she likes the fact that it is cleaned up, and everyone can listen to it. She is a supporter of anything I do. She hasn’t given much feedback per say, but I do know that she has heard it and I have her thumbs up as far as support goes!
OK, we don’t want to make this all about her, but… Please set the record straight once and for all! Are the rumors true? You know, the one everybody is talking about… Is Michelle McCool really…. Not a fan of ice cream?!
Neither is her brother!
Excuse us while we side track, but recently on SmackDown, your parents were shown on WWE Television, as they sat in the front row cheering on your sister!
Did they share with you their reaction? Are they now local celebs?! Lol… Sticking to the Flawless theme. Didn’t they look great? You can easily see where perfection is molded from. Haha.. seriously though, I thought that was awesome. They are such fans of WWE and of course Michelles numero unos fans, so that was really exciting for them.
When do you think we’ll see you on WWE television?
Hmmm…. Wwe television? Not so sure about that one. Now, if someone from NXT or a new generation wrestler would hurry up and bring back a good ole “behind stompin, backwoods, cowboy type gimmick”, you might HEAR DWB on WWE before you would see us on there. I mean, how cool would it be to have your music playing as entrance music to one of the superstars? That would
be way cool!
And for the record, who were your favorite wwe stars growing up… And who are your favorites now?
I was a huge STING fan when I was a kid. I liked Flair a lot, and the Bushwhackers. But when The Rock, Stone Cold, and Taker took over the scene, the others were on the backburner. As far as currents go, I have to admit, Randy Orton has become of favorite of mine to watch in the ring. He does a great job with his character. And I cant lie, I am a Santino fan. DUDE is a TRIP!!!
So if LayCool is Simply Flawless, what does that make DWB?
Pretty even comparison if you ask me ?
Alright Jeff! Here’s your chance to convince us all into buying the latest album by DWB; whatcha got! Its new! People like new!
The sound is new, the lyrics are new, the style is new. It has NEVER been done. It is just very interesting. I promise that you have heard nothing like it. And I also guarantee that you will like it. You don’t have to like country music. You can despise rap music. But I promise you, that you will like our music. Don’t wanna brag too much, but it is something that I promise you will listen to a few times, then you will definitely be calling your friends and telling them about it. Its got something for EVERYONE. Seriously, our fan base ranges from 8-75 years old. That says a lot for how broad our style is!!! You will not be let down.
Where can we order our copy?
